This probably won't be the popular opinion but here goes:
I feel that the fair format does not work successfully enough for it to warrant organising each year. As far as I know, each fair has either cost more money to run than was made back, leaving those who funded it in the red, or has generated very little profit in return.
I feel that as there already aren't a large number of active mlp collectors in Australia, much less ones who a) have the ability to come to a fair and b) will actually attend one, smaller and possibly more regular mini meets are the way to go, much like the Perth collectors already have established.
I think the biggest problem is that there are very few people who are willing to travel to attend an event. This year's fair was in Sydney and there were people in NSW and within fairly close proximity that still felt it was too far away. It's almost like, 'if it isn't an hour or less away, I'm not going'. Perfectly fine that they feel that way, but it doesn't progress the fair and the long term goal of Hasbro support if we can never get more than a dozen people in attendance, no matter where it is held. I think the Perth gang are on the mark with having annual/bi-annual meets. It is far less expensive, easier to promote and organise and you get to know your local collectors. It also means that those who are willing to travel, can still do so. I think there are enough clusters of collectors to do this, particularly in Perth, a combined ACT-NSW and probably even Brisbane. It's definitely not a "us against them" thing, if anything it means resources could be shared. I made a bunch of laminated bingo cards for the Sydney fair and they could easily be posted to Perth the next time they need it and vice versa.
That said, I would still attend a fair if one was to go ahead.

Good points made there Redsetgogirl, I quite agree with you in regards to the fact that the distance is an issue. Perhaps the fair should be maybe every two years as that way it would give people a chance to save money for plane tickets etc, then just concentrate of smaller meets between the collectors like we do over here in Perth. We hold them every few months and we get quite a turn out at each meet, what do people think of that idea???

maybe start a topic on the TP? or the arena or both, regarding an aussie fair.. and maybe an expression of interest on Gumtree even, I know a lot of aussie collectors look at pony stuff on there.. and we can even try to interest the brony community I guess. Hubby owes me an awesome holiday this year, to make up for us not moving... I can finally travel to a fair, yay!

Ok I've posted threads on both the Arena and Trading post to see how much interest is around, would be nice to see one this year.
