Well back in June we had it pretty darn good. Nearly dollar for dollar with our US friends. Now we are back down in the low 80's Yes I do recall the early 2000's when we hit US0.48 But of late it seemed that between the US economic downturn and some reasonable economic figures we actually had something of a new chance at a strong currency. I guess not. The difference per one hundred dollars today in paypal versus in June in Paypal is over $12 more for the same item! Not that much you may think but if you buy $1000 worth then it's another $120 on top. That is a tonne of cash in a short time. I hope that most of you did the same thing as I and took major advantage of our surging dollar as it looks to be over. I bought alot of ponies. Nearly all from the States and nearly all of them expensive buggers. Is anyone else feeling the pinch in the currency downturn?

OMG - I nearly died the other day when I bought a lot of ponies from the US and seen how much paypal was taking out of my account:( I knew it had dropped but not quite that much!
I suppose I was lucky as I also got a lot of ponies I really wanted while the dollar was good but my biggest problem is I buy basically 90% of my ponies/accessories from the US (and most of the rest from the UK/Europe).
I very rarely seem to find what I'm looking for locally on EBAY. I've found a few gems here and there but not too often so I guess I'll just have to get used to my "pony allowance" not going as far as it used too *sighs, pouts and goes to sulk*

I didn't mention the pound or Euro because we haven't moved so dramatically with it so it's not as hard to get used to being able to buy stuff one moment and the next having it cost so much more for the same thing.
The US collectors probably didn't know what hit them when their dollar dropped for a while. Can you imagine how they'd cope if they had our problem - a low dollar against almost all other major currencies with no end in sight. The NZ people are right there with us although they generally have it worse (sorry guys it does suck big time).
All of this is going to force me to insist when making sales in US dollars that the buyer cover the paypal 2% currency rate offset just so I can get the real value. Not on ebay, but on board sales elsewhere. I can't afford to absorb another couple of percent. It's obscene as it is.

oh my gosh paid for something today 0.79c againts the u.s dollar aarrgghhh I had to pay for a pony today too. Pony was one I REALLY wanted at a good price so I couldn't resist her but I'm seriously going to have to look at what I'm buying and be really tough on myself. To prevent excess spending I have made a list of set completer ponies & accessories (many fairly easy to find (ie cheaper) and I'm ONLY buying them at a reasonable price no more buying a pony just because for now. I just have to make myself stick to this plan but that's easier said than done. lol

We are down again. It was 78c in Paypal yesterday but likely to be 77c tomorrow. I'm going to sell off my excess ponies as this price increase is taking the fun right out of finding what was a bargain

Then the total would have been just a tad over US$40. Craptastic currency we have.

Oh my goodness i can't believe how much the aussie $ has gone down since i've been away. Ebay shopping is going to be a little less fun now. I was loving it so much when we were just about $ for $.

Tell me about it But at least on the upside ebay prices seem to be down which will help even things out for while. It's certainly a buyer's not a seller's market ATM.

I just bought $252 worth of pony goodness and was stunned when the exchange rate left me with a $308 bill. Oh well, one of the ponies is an ultra rare G1 MIB set that I've never seen MIB before so I'm both stunned and happy!!

Looky at our dollar today - about the lowest since 2002! When I started this thread we were 20 cents higher than we are now. Now we're in the low 60's. I have to admit that even I didn't see us going that low.
